Panel discussion: Civilisation Impndign Civilisaiton

About performance

The theme of the forthcoming festival edition, Civilisation Impeding Civilisation, will also serve as the leitmotif for the panel discussion that will bring together international guests and theatre representatives.

Is Europe finding herself on major crossroads of history or on historic breakthrough? The society keeps clearly changing. Public space is becoming inundated by expression that had been unacceptable a few years ago. Refugees keep on arriving. And we, the countries of Central Europe, are finding it quite difficult to come to terms with the new developments. Nationalism is acquiring momentum. There is open talk about the loss of faith in democracy and in the system. What, then are the changes that the contemporary society of post-factual era is going through? How does theatre come to terms with such issues as the rise of discontent, violence and tension? How do politics affect culture in the neighbouring countries in such context? How does theatre respond to it? Is theatre a free medium? As such, does it have a chance to respond to the developments within the society? What is indeed the transformation we are experiencing?
