Eurokontext.sk 2017 – Special offer for IMPATIENT SOULS!

Yet again the time approaches for the successful international festival Eurokontext.sk. To bring fresh touch to the end of the season, the 2017 edition will focus on drama.  From 10 to 20 June it will showcase seven international productions and ten plays by the SND Drama Company either in première or as those that have recently collected different awards. Their common denominator is the leitmotif of the 2017 edition: Civilisation Impends Civilisation.

The impatient souls among our audiences will be pleased to know that special offer of 10% off tickets is now available for all featured international performances. You can use the special offer when purchasing tickets to the Eurokontext.sk in SND Box Offices from 24 March to 7 April only.

What are the focal themes the theatres will address?

  • The National Theatre Mannheim will bring their play Turn On/Turn Off.  Between the two extremities tragedy develops. The playwright Roland Schimmelpfennig is known in Slovak theatre context. He had written his play on commission by the Tokyo theatre: tsunami and then Fukushima have brought ecological catastrophe, as well as inner devastation in humans.
  • The Old Theatre in Krakow has read anew Ibsen don’s An Enemy of the Peoplebusiness, truth and manipulation with the truth triggered quite a discussion within the ensemble. The production has become a cult piece in Poland, not merely given its suggestive interpretation.
  • The Slovenian National Theatre Drama from Ljubljana reached for the classics … yet Ubu the King has lost none of its absurdity until these days,
  • The National Theatre in Bucharest offers Lottery Tickets. Where is morals when it comes to gambling, dream, horror or grotesque?
  • Vigszínház from Budapest and the director Enikő Eszényi, who always comes up with a surprise, are well known in Bratislava. The Encounter directed by Eszényi touches upon privacy-related conflicts.
  • For the first time ever, Slovakia will welcome the National Theatre of Iceland. Othello in their presentation will be no classical piece, not least because Iago will be a woman.
  • Martyr is brought by our guests from the Moravian–Silesian National Theatre in Ostrava to address fundamentalism at school, and the conflict between religious belief and science.

Eurokontext.sk, 10 – 20 June 2017.
